There was three different projects that I had to do. I had to create a 3D object, engrave a water bottle, and create a notebook. For the 3D object I decided to create a zeppelin. I used the Purple Haze logo and changed it a little bit. I kept the Purple Haze logo but removed Jimi's face and put two guitars crossing each other. The notebook was easy. I designed the front cover to cut out my first name and engrave my last name and the bucks logo. The back cover has an electric and acoustic guitar crossing.
One of the first steps in creating the water bottle is installing the rotary part of the laser. You then have to make sure that you have the correct settings for the rotary jig. In illustrator you have to rotate the design by 180 degrees. You then install your water bottle and make sure that the design is on it. Once you have all the correct settings then you can start engraving it. You then just take it out and grab a cap. The notebook was not as hard as the water bottle. You don't have to install and special jigs. Once you have the design all planned out then you just go down to the laser and cut and engrave it. Since you are using mat board you have to have it cut upwards so it doesn't scorch. Once it's done cutting you take it out of the laser and then whole punch the top. Then cut out 20 sheets of paper and hole punch those too. After you've done that you just put the spiral on and clip of the extra if there is any. For the zeppelin you just have to download a file from thingiverse and then edit it to fit the size of the laser bed. After that is done you go down to the laser and cut it out, making sure that it cuts upwards. Then you take out the pieces and put the project together. After that you are done with the projects for this rotation.
I learned a lot about laser engraving through this project. I wanted to learn about how to engrave a water bottle and I did . I also learned that when you engrave mat board you need to cut upwards so it doesn't scorch. I also learned that you need to install a jig to engrave the water bottle.
