For the individual 3D print I decided to make a guitar body toothbrush holder. I wanted to make something that was creative and that you could tell I made it. I did run into a couple problems with the 3D printer. The first one I chose was not working correctly so I needed to switch to another printer. The second problem was my fault, I didn't scale it right so it was too small and I needed to reprint. Other than that the process was easy and it went smoothly.
The first thing I did was look up the diameter of toothbrush handle. Then I designed the body of it in Inventor. Once I finished that I didn't saved the file as an STL file and got it ready for 3D printing. To get it ready I used the MakerBot software. I had to change the scale and put supports on. I needed supports because of the holes, since they weren't supported by the 3D printer bed. Then I uploaded my file to my flash drive and went down to the innovation center to 3D print. I put my flash drive into the USB port and started 3D printing. Since I scaled it wrong I needed to reprint. So I just headed back down and did the process in the innovation center. Then I brought it home and put it to good use.
Things I learned
Through this project I learned that even when you mess up that you need to keep on going. I messed up quite a lot but I never gave up and I got it done. I've already done all of the things I did in this project so I didn't really learn anything new about the machines. I learned more things about character. I also learned that no matter how hard something seems, you can figure it out by working hard and trying to find the solution.
